HEIC is the photo format iPhones use by default. It's a HEIF container holding HEVC-compressed images, which is why the files are about half the size of a JPG. Windows needs a paid extension to show them, many Android galleries and Chromebooks can't open them at all, and some apps only show a blank icon. This viewer decodes the photo right in the page, so you can look at it without installing anything.
A HEIC can also carry more than one picture. iPhone photos often include a thumbnail, an HDR gain map that brightens highlights on HDR screens, and in Portrait mode a depth map used for the background blur. The EXIF block records the time, camera and lens settings, and usually the GPS position. Checking it before you send a photo to someone tells you exactly what you're sharing.
A viewer and an inspector in one.
The HEIC is decoded in your browser and shown upright at full detail. Works in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
See whether the photo carries GPS coordinates, and where they point, before you post or send it.
Capture time with its time zone, phone model, lens, aperture, shutter speed, ISO and focal length.
Shows whether the HEIC is the photo half of a Live Photo, which means a matching .MOV holds the motion.
Tells you if the file includes a Portrait depth map or an HDR gain map, and how many images it holds.
The file is read locally. Its metadata, including the location, never leaves your device.
No app, no extension, no account.
